Brow Lift Candidates: Getting Rid of Forehead Lines By dsherris on May 26, 2023

A woman without forehead linesSagging brows and deep lines across the forehead can affect the expression, causing some people to look tired, angry, or sad, even when they don’t feel that way. A brow lift improves the appearance by smoothing out forehead lines and eliminating sagging skin so you look more like you feel.

Brow lifts are suitable for many men and women who are unhappy with the signs of aging on their forehead and want to rejuvenate their appearance. Brow lift candidates are getting rid of forehead lines with Dr. David A. Sherris at the Buffalo NY, based Clinic of Facial Plastic Surgery. To find out if you’re a candidate, we welcome you to schedule a consultation.

What Is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the forehead and surrounding areas by lifting sagging skin.

A brow lift is typically performed endoscopically at our Buffalo facial plastic surgery clinic. The endoscopic brow lift is less invasive than traditional brow lifts and uses only a few small incisions hidden within the hair. The brow tissue is then released and repositioned using a small surgical tool.

A traditional brow lift is performed by making an incision across the forehead, from ear to ear and along the hairline. The skin and underlying tissues are carefully lifted and repositioned. Excess tissues are removed and the incision is closed. Traditional brow lifts can lower a hairline if needed.

Ideal Candidates for Brow Lifts

Many people who are unhappy with the appearance of forehead lines can benefit from brow lift surgery but it is not right for everyone. The following are some things to consider when determining ideal candidates for brow lift surgery.

Ideal Age

Generally, ideal candidates for brow lifts for forehead lines are over the age of 40, but may be younger due to genetics.

In Good General Health

Because a brow lift is a surgical procedure, candidates must be in good general health to reduce the risk of complications during and after surgery.

Those with uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease, and certain other health conditions are generally not acceptable candidates for brow lift surgery.

Non-Smoker

Smoking interferes with the body’s ability to heal, which can increase the chances of complications for smokers following any surgery.

Candidates for a brow lift should be non-smokers or committed to giving up smoking prior to surgery and for the duration of recovery.

Forehead Wrinkles

Candidates for a brow lift will notice lines and wrinkles on their forehead. Lines may run horizontally across the forehead. Others may have lines that appear as deep furrows between the eyebrows, commonly called frown lines.

Often candidates with forehead lines feel they look angry, tired, sad, or worried because of their forehead lines.

Good Skin Elasticity

As the skin ages, it loses elasticity or the ability to stretch and bounce back. Good skin elasticity is important when undergoing a brow lift as it helps prolong the results of surgery and is beneficial in helping the skin adjust to its new position on the forehead.

Realistic Goals and Expectations

Candidates must have realistic goals and expectations when undergoing a brow lift or any plastic surgery procedure. For example, a brow lift can help candidates look more youthful, but it won’t make a patient who is 50 years old look 20.

Additionally, candidates need to be aware that they will continue to age. Even so, a brow lift can provide wonderful results for many years and help make other treatments, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, more effective at rejuvenating the appearance.
