Mid Face Lift

A mid face lift addresses the middle section of the face, namely the cheeks and areas around the nose and directly beneath the eyes. If your neck and lower face do not require lifting, a mid face lift may be an ideal alternative to traditional face lift surgery. As we begin to age, we first notice our cheek pads start to descend making our nasolabial folds, the lines that run alongside our nose, deeper and our lower eyelids more hollow. By elevating the cheeks and putting the cheek pads back into the correct position, laxity around the lower eyelids and nasolabial folds are improved and the face takes on a more youthful looking appearance. The cheek fat pads are returned to a youthful, elevated position. In most cases a lower eyelid blepharoplasty is added to a mid face lift to remove excess skin from the lower eyelids. The results of a mid face lift are well regarded for looking completely natural. The mid face lift utilizes deep incisions along the nasolabial fold or beneath the eyelids that allows muscle and fat tissue to be more efficiently manipulated.

In contrast to a full face lift, which typically is performed through superficial incisions made behind the hairline or near the ear, a mid face lift uses small incisions in the hair of the temple and inside the mouth which allow the soft tissues of the mid face to be repositioned. During the procedure Dr. Sherris introduces a small endoscopic camera through the tiny incisions to allow for the safe elevation of the tissue. These precise incisions result in less scarring, less bruising, greater control, and quicker recovery.

Risks and Benefits

We are proponents of mid face lift surgery at our Buffalo practice because it can be a tremendously beneficial procedure. A mid face lift is a tremendous option for individuals who would like to revive their youthful luster and look healthier. With aging, weight fluctuations, and other factors, the cheeks can begin to sag or become puffy, and the areas around the nose and lower eyelids can appear hollow or sunken. With a mid face lift, these issues can be corrected.

As with all surgical procedures, a mid face lift has risks that should be weighed before a decision on treatment is made. Excessive bleeding, nerve damage, infection, adverse reactions to anesthesia, hematomas, and conspicuous scarring, though rare and preventable, are all risks of mid face lift surgery.
