Eliminate Puffiness from Your Eyes and Weight from Your Shoulders

Lower Eyelid Surgery Buffalo Do you have sagging eyelids, conspicuous "bags" under your eyes, or puffy skin? If so, lower eyelid surgery, offered at our Buffalo practice, may be for you. Though diet and exercise can be tremendously effective at staving off the signs of aging, the face, and in particular the eyes, tends to be immune to such measures, leading many to look older or more tired than they really are. Lower eyelid surgery, in addition to upper eyelid surgery, aims to correct these issues so that a person can feel refreshed and look as vibrant as he or she feels. If you would like to learn more about this procedure or are interested in scheduling a lower eyelid surgery consultation, contact our Buffalo plastic surgery practice today.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Though each procedure will vary based on the patient's needs, typically, lower eyelid surgery involves the removal of excess skin, fat, or both from the lower eyelid area. The purpose of the procedure is to form a nicely refined lower eyelid that is healthy and youthful in appearance. Typically, lower eyelid surgery is performed under sedative anesthetic though general anesthesia can be called upon if necessary.

To perform lower eyelid surgery, a small incision is made just beneath the lower eyelash. This provides access to the fat and skin tissue in the lower eyelid but keeps the incision hidden so that any resulting incision line is inconspicuous. Excess fat deposits are repositioned and sagging skin is then removed and sometimes tightened so that the area is firmer, smoother, and more toned. In  minor cases it may be possible to utilize a transconjunctival approach if no skin removal is required to meet the patient's needs; in this procedure, small incisions are made inside of the lower eyelid, resulting in no visible incision line. Overly puffy lower eyelids or sunken eyelids can look unappealing; bulging fat deposits can cause puffiness and bags. Lower eyelid surgery in some cases can even out the complexion for a more youthful appearance.

Risks and Benefits

Lower eyelid surgery can completely revitalize your appearance. The eyes are one of your most defining traits, and perhaps the most personal. When people look you in the eye, the vitality and sparkle of your gaze has a profound impact on the impression that you make. By defining the shape and appearance of the lower eyelid, you can appear healthier, younger, and more confident, which in turn will make you more personable, outgoing, and provide improved self-esteem. At the Clinic of Facial Plastic Surgery, our team, led by the esteemed Dr. David Sherris, takes great satisfaction in helping patients achieve their aesthetic goals, and lower eyelid surgery is one such option in our catalog of facial cosmetic surgeries.

The risks of cosmetic surgery should be weighed before any decision on treatment is made. They include infection, hematoma, bleeding, scarring, bruising, swelling, adverse reaction to anesthesia or need for secondary surgery.
