Which Type of Eyelid Surgery is Right for You?
There are various types of eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) available to meet the diverse needs of patients. At the Buffalo practice of the Clinic of Facial Plastic Surgery, we specialize in treatment of the face, including the nose, ears, and eyelids, and have extensive experience with all types of blepharoplasty procedures. If your eyes droop, you have conspicuous under eye bags, suffer from puffy eyelids, or appear older than you actually are because of sagging upper or lower eyelids, you may benefit from cosmetic surgery. If you have considered undergoing eyelid surgery to revitalize your appearance and regain your youthful look, we can answer any questions you may have regarding your blepharoplasty options. Please contact our Buffalo plastic surgery practice today to schedule a consultation with Dr. David Sherris.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
If the upper eyelids are sagging excessively or are puffy and inflated as a result of excess fat tissue, it can negatively impact a person's appearance, self-esteem, and confidence. With upper eyelid surgery, excess skin and fat tissue can be removed and the remaining skin of the upper eyelid can be pulled taut and elevated so that it appears healthier and more youthful. To minimize or eliminate visible scarring, the incision will typically be placed in the upper crease of the eyelid.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Puffy or sagging lower eyelids, as well as stubborn fat deposits, can be corrected through lower eyelid surgery. After making an incision directly beneath the lower eyelash so that it is hidden from sight, excess skin and fat tissue is removed; if necessary, fat can also be redistributed to produce a more even, uniform appearance. The specific scope of the procedure will depend on the client's wishes as well as the extent of his or her eyelid droop. Lower eyelid surgery can have a dramatic effect on a person's appearance.
Eyelid Surgery to Improve Vision
Though blepharoplasty is often used for cosmetic purposes, in some cases, it can be employed to improve a person's vision. In extreme cases, drooping or saggy eyelids can actually hinder a person's vision by blocking their field of view. In such cases, the excess skin and fat tissue can be removed and the remaining skin can be re-draped so that it both improves the patient's appearance and their vision. If your vision is partially blocked as a result of excessively sagging eyelids, eyelid surgery for improved vision may be an option.
