More Information About Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can offer significant cosmetic benefits for those patients whose eyelids droop and cause them to appear sad, angry, or tired. Dr. David Sherris performs blepharoplasty to remove sagging, loose skin around the eyes and eliminate the fatty deposits that cause puffy bags to form below the eyes. For the lower eyelids, he sometimes employs an advanced method that prevents visible scarring and stitching. Eyelid surgery can also address the functional problem of loose lower eyelids, which can impair vision and cause discomfort.
Dr. Sherris will perform your blepharoplasty in one of three ways: standard eyelid surgery, transconjunctival eyelid surgery, or by using the pinch technique. After a personal eyelid surgery consultation and discussion, Dr. Sherris will decide which method is most appropriate for the treatment of your individual needs. Most people return to work within a week of surgery. Full recovery within weeks to months. We provide eyelid surgery to residents of Buffalo , Rochester, Niagara Falls, and the surrounding areas who desire treatment from one of the premier facial plastic surgeons in the region.
Look More Alert & Youthful
Standard eyelid surgery is an appropriate solution for patients whose lower and/or upper eyelids droop and sag because of excess eyelid skin. As we age, our skin begins to lose its elasticity because the protein that makes up its underlying support structures is produced in fewer quantities. This process can be even more evident in the eye region because eyelid skin is the thinnest on the body. In the capable hands of a skilled professional like Dr. David Sherris, blepharoplasty is a safe procedure that can produce long-lasting results and leave virtually undetectable scars. Most patients can return to work seven days after the procedure. The full recovery period may end after several weeks, at which time the full benefits of your new youthful and refreshed appearance can be enjoyed. Eyelid surgery is often combined with a brow lift for even more dramatic facial rejuvenation. If you are interested in eyelid surgery and live in the Buffalo , Niagara Falls, or Rochester areas, you are invited to make the short drive to our clinic. Transconjunctival Eyelid Surgery
Transconjunctival eyelid surgery is performed to remove excess fat from the lower eyelids that causes the face to look tired and old. The procedure is most effective for patients who do not have excess eyelid skin but have developed some puffiness, most often due to heredity. This type of eyelid surgery has a number of benefits. For one, Dr. Sherris makes the incision on the inside of the lower eyelid to avoid any visible scarring. In addition, the results of transconjunctival eyelid surgery are permanent; the excess fat does not return. Swelling may persist for a few weeks after the procedure, but most patients are able to return to work within ten days of the surgery. For more information on how you can enjoy the benefits of younger-looking eyes with transconjunctival eyelid surgery, please contact our Buffalo practice today.
Eyelid Surgery Patient
To correct minor sagging caused by excess skin in the lower eyelid, Dr. Sherris performs "pinch technique" eyelid surgery at his Buffalo practice. The pinch technique is appropriate for younger patients who do not need to correct puffy eye bags, loose eyelids, or other conditions associated with age. This method is less invasive than other forms of eyelid surgery, does not take as long to recover from, and can be performed in-office with local anesthesia. For more information on pinch technique eyelid surgery, please contact our practice serving Buffalo, Rochester Niagara Falls, and all of western New York.
