The face is one of your most exposed parts. As a result, it can age rapidly and develop wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.
A facelift can reverse these signs of aging to provide smoother-looking skin and a younger look.

What Is a Facelift?
A facelift or (rhytidectomy) is a plastic surgery procedure that reduces the signs of aging around your face and neck. Over time, your skin and the supporting soft tissue underneath the skin becomes loose, which results in sagging skin and wrinkles. A facelift procedure can tighten the skin around your cheeks, neck, and jawline to help combat the signs of aging and rejuvenate your appearance. Our Buffalo practice offers both plastic surgery and non-surgical options to highlight the best aspects of your appearance.

Dr. Sherris Discusses Facelifts
Types of Facelifts
A standard facelift can benefit patients who want to achieve complete rejuvenation on the lower two-thirds of the face and neck. This procedure covers the areas targeted by mini facelifts and neck lifts in a single procedure, but also requires a longer recovery time than either treatment.
Mini facelifts are designed for patients who want to treat specific areas of their face and neck. Many of our patients love mini facelifts because the procedure is less invasive, faster, and requires less recovery compared to other treatments. Dr. Sherris goes a step beyond the standard technique by tightening a layer of tissue beneath the skin to provide more natural and longer-lasting results.
Deep Plane Facelift
The deep plane facelift is a more extensive procedure than standard facelifts and can take care of issues such as pronounced facial sagging and drooping of the mid-face. Deep plane facelifts are also one of the few procedures that can significantly reduce the prominence of nasolabial lines (the deep creases that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth).
As the name implies, the neck lift addresses the facial area below your jawline and reduces the amount of saggy and drooping skin around the neck. While tightening the skin and soft tissue under your chin, many times neck lifts are combined with liposuction to remove excess fat or platysmaplasty to address neck banding.

Timeline of a Standard Facelift
When you choose Dr. Sherris, you're choosing a leader in facial plastic surgery that has given lectures on the topic and performed surgery around the world.
Recovering After a Facelift
After the procedure, Dr. Sherris may prescribe pain medications to help manage any discomfort. Most facial surgery feels tight and achy and is not particularly painful. A drainage tube may also be utilized to rid the facial area of excess fluids within the first 24 hours of the surgery. We will schedule an appointment to remove sutures about seven days after the surgery.
Most patients return to work and normal activities about 10-14 days after surgery. The results are immediate, and patients will see them continue to develop during the recovery period over the next few months. However, patients may notice subtle changes for up to six to 12 months after their procedure.
