Crow’s feet are often among the first signs of aging to appear on the face. These fine lines that jut out from the outer corners of the eyes can make a person look older than he or she truly is and detract from his or her overall appearance. Thankfully, there are a number of highly effective procedures, including non-surgical injectable treatment options, available for the treatment of crow’s feet. At The Clinic of Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. David A. Sherris offers a comprehensive range of non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments, including BOTOX® Cosmetic, one of the most popular treatments for reducing the appearance of crow’s feet.

If you are interested in learning more about the available treatment options for crow’s feet, we urge you to schedule a consultation at our Buffalo, NY plastic surgery practice today. Dr. Sherris focuses his entire practice on the face, so he is uniquely qualified to treat crow’s feet and other facial wrinkles.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic has long been used to soften the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in the upper part of the face. For years, doctors had success using BOTOX® Cosmetic to treat crow’s feet; however, its application was off-label. In 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration finally approved BOTOX® Cosmetic for the treatment of crow’s feet, the only injectable treatment currently to have gained FDA approval for such treatment.

Unlike Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®, BOTOX® Cosmetic is not a dermal filler. Rather, BOTOX® Cosmetic is a safe form of a toxin called botulinum toxin type A. This toxin is strategically injected into the muscles responsible for wrinkles so that it temporarily prevents those wrinkles from contracting. Usually, the results of BOTOX® Cosmetic last between four and six months, at which point treatment can safely be repeated. During this period, crow’s feet will be  less visible. However, the muscles responsible for other facial expressions and for essential motions such as opening and closing the eyes will be completely unaffected.

Chemical Peels

Dr. Sherris also offers chemical peels at his plastic surgery practice. Chemical peels are particularly effective for patients who are only beginning to experience crow’s feet. Dr. Sherris applies a chemical solution to the skin. This solution removes the outermost layer of skin, where the signs of aging and damage are most apparent. As a result, the fresher, more youthful skin that lies underneath is revealed. While a chemical peel will not be effective at removing deeper lines, it will help to soften the appearance of crow’s feet that have just begun to form, especially for patients with lighter-toned skin.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Sherris, he will advise you as to whether a chemical peel is likely to yield satisfactory results or if BOTOX® Cosmetic is a more suitable option in your case.
