Questions & Answers

Question: Is a chin implant necessary to correct an over projected nose?
Answer: Not necessarily. In some cases, a chin implant is useful when a weak chin is associated with a large nose. Yet, in some other cases, the chin is of appropriate size but the nose is large. In the latter cases, a chin implant is not necessarily used for repair of an over projected nose. Rather, a reduction rhinoplasty would be the technique of choice.

Question: When repairing a long nose, are both the front and side of the nose altered?
Answer: In most rhinoplasties both the front and the side of the nose are altered. The amount of alteration done to each is dependent on the initial deformity.

Question: Can the consultation, particularly analyzing the problem, really be effective if it is over the internet?
Answer: Looking at pictures of an external nose is only half of the evaluation at best. A live consultation would include the surgeon feeling the nose for its structural support, an assessment of skin thickness, and looking into the nose with an endoscope to assess associated deviations of intranasal structures, nasal valve abnormalities that result in nasal airway obstruction, evaluation for the presence of nasal polyps or enlarged turbinates which can cause nasal airway obstruction and other things. Thus, a live consultation is much better than an evaluation over the internet.

Question: Can the results of a “bad” rhinoplasty be fixed?
Answer: Most cosmetic and functional disorders from prior rhinoplasty can be repaired with a revision rhinoplasty or septorhinoplasty. Revision rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty is more difficult than primary rhinoplasty and septorhinoplasty. The majority of the cases I perform are revisions of past “bad” rhinoplasties. It is best to use an experienced revision rhinoplasty surgeon to address these types of problems.

Question: You have great before and after rhinoplasty pictures, and I was wondering how long it will take before my nose looks like your after pictures?
Answer: Typically, within the first few months of surgery, the nose looks great. Yet, the before and after pictures you see are at least one year after the surgery. That is when you will realize the full impact and effectiveness of your rhinoplasty.
