Chemical Peel
A chemical peel involves the application of a chemical solution to the face; this solution helps break up and remove the top layer of skin - typically dead and damaged cells - so that healthy skin cells can be exposed. This non-invasive treatment is an effective solution for the temporary relief of skin blemishes, discoloration, wrinkles, and other minor imperfections. As every patient has different needs, the acid solutions used in chemical peel treatment vary in strength. Typically, the chemical solution is comprised of one of the following acid bases:
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) - The lightest acid base, for patients who are seeking only minor rejuvenation, alpha hydroxys such as glycolic, lactic, and fruit acid provide smoother, more vibrant skin with minimal to zero downtime. Ideal for the treatment of minor wrinkling, acne, uneven pigmentation and dullness of skin, AHA treatment is quick and effective, and this type of acid can even be mixed in with at-home creams for daily usage.
Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) - Effective for a wide ranging number of treatments, TCA is a common chemical peel agent, as it provides more substantive rejuvenating qualities than AHA while allowing for a quicker recovery than that of Phenol. Medium-depth wrinkles, blemishes, pigmentation inconsistency, more substantial acne and other imperfections can all be treated with trichloroacetic acid.
